On July 10, 2026, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan between the Minister of Internal Affairs, Colonel General of Militia Ramazon Rahimzoda, members of the Public Councils for Civil Society Support of Police Reform, and representatives of associations of Tajiks living abroad.
During the meeting, participants discussed issues related to strengthening cooperation between the internal affairs bodies and civil society, increasing the openness and transparency of police activities, and enhancing the role of public oversight in the police reform process.
Ramazon Rahimzoda noted that the Public Council for Civil Society Support of Police Reform under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan was established as a public consultative and oversight body to promote citizens' participation in the police reform process.
The Council’s primary objective is to take public opinion into account and to provide proposals and recommendations from civil society representatives regarding the development and implementation of state policy on cooperation between the police and society, as well as to exercise public oversight over the progress of police reform.
It was emphasized that the Public Council is composed on the basis of voluntary participation by citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan, representatives of public associations, including human rights, scientific, and cultural organizations, as well as representatives of associations of Tajiks living abroad. The Council carries out its activities with the aim of protecting common interests and promoting constructive cooperation between society and the internal affairs bodies.
The participants exchanged views on further expanding cooperation between the internal affairs bodies and civil society, implementing the principles of openness and transparency, ensuring respect for human and civil rights and freedoms, and further improving the police reform process.
At the conclusion of the meeting, a number of veterans of the internal affairs bodies, members of the Public Councils, and representatives of associations of Tajiks living abroad were awarded the "For Cooperation" Medal, Certificates of Honor, and Letters of Appreciation in recognition of their significant contribution to strengthening cooperation between the police and society, supporting the police reform process, and their active public service.
