During the operational-search activities, the militia officers detained two men, aged 25 and 26, living in the Shakhritus district, on suspicion of extortion.
In early November 2024, the suspects met the administrator of computer games on the Internet and began to cooperate with him, then began to receive information about which citizen was a member of the gaming group, what types of items he purchased for what amount and from which phone number he transferred funds.
On November 16, 2024, according to the information received, the detainees called a 30-year-old man, a resident of the Nurabad district, posing as law enforcement officers, with the aim of obtaining money by extortion for allegedly transferring funds through a social network to terrorist extremist groups, and demanded 60 thousand somoni from the victim for release from criminal liability. Subsequently, the victim, fearing threats and beatings, handed them 14,500 somoni that same day.
The detainees were not satisfied with this, and within 24 hours they demanded that the victim bring them another 20,000 somoni.
As a result of operational and investigative measures carried out by police officers, the perpetrators were detained while receiving this money.
An investigation is underway into this incident.
